Newcastle United fans have been reacting to claims from journalist Mark Douglas surrounding a potential move for Darwin Nunez in the January transfer window.
Whilst the defence has been named by some as the priority for Newcastle this January, following the injury to Callum Wilson, the attack has also become an area of improvement for Eddie Howe’s men.
They partly solved that issue with the signing of Chris Wood, but it looks as if Newcastle might not be done yet when it comes to the goals department.
A report from back in December claimed that Newcastle were quoted in excess of £50m for Uruguayan forward Nunez, and taking to Twitter, Douglas – whilst talking about a potential move for central defender Diego Carlos – claimed that Nunez was ‘one to watch’ before the window closes.
His comments generated some interesting responses from some Newcastle fans who couldn’t contain their excitement about the prospect of him moving to St. James’ Park:
“Nunez has some very big names in European football circling him for a summer move. Would be a huge coup for #NUFC if they can somehow pull off a deal.”
Would Nunez save NUFC from relegation?
Yes
No
Newcastle already have a number of options when it comes to centre-forward, but given the mess they are in now, having one more name to choose from couldn’t really hurt, so it will be interesting to see if they can get Nunez over the line before the window closes.
Given one fan appeared to prefer Nunez to Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic – who had been tentatively linked with the Magpies in recent weeks amid interest from plenty of top clubs – it seems there would be plenty of enthusiasm for the Uruguayan if he was to arrive on Tyneside.
