Newcastle United fans have been reacting to claims surrounding Armando Broja and a potential move in the January transfer window.

Scoring goals has been a problem for Newcastle this season, with Eddie Howe’s men only managing to bag 21 in as many games so far in the Premier League.

And with main man Callum Wilson having gone down with a pretty significant injury, they’ve been looking to fix things as the window moves on. They have already signed Chris Wood from fellow relegation candidates Burnley, but according to reports, they might not be stopping there.

According to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle have submitted a bid of €40m (£33.4m) for 20-year-old Broja – currently on loan at Southampton from Chelsea – and the relevant parties ‘are currently in contact’, with the Saints also apparently offering €30m (£25m) plus bonuses to buy him outright.

Broja has had an impressive season on the south coast this season, scoring seven goals in 21 appearances – firepower which could really help Newcastle in their fight to beat the drop.

News of their interest was relayed by @NUFC360 on Twitter for fans to react to, and they seemed to be pretty excited about the prospect of him coming on board, even if some weren’t totally convinced that Newcastle would be able to pull the deal off:

“He’d actually be such a sick #9 for the next 5 years. I hope we do it.”

“Would be epic”
“Would be an unreal singing but this is up the list of unlikely transfers in my opinion”
“Would love this!”
“Omds”
“What a player”

The report does later state that Chelsea’s position appears to be that they will allow Broja to complete the season at Southampton before deciding what to do in the summer. However, given the money Newcastle have at their disposal, it shouldn’t be totally ruled out at this stage if they can wave enough money in front of Chelsea’s faces.
