The analysts at Tifo Football have suggested that Leeds United should pursue Oihan Sancet during the January transfer window.

One of Leeds’ big problems this season has been their failure to have a suitable backup for Patrick Bamford – who had to take some time away from the side due to injury – best demonstrated by the fact only two players have managed to bag more than three in all competitions.

And with the January window now open, they can look to add some extra bodies to the squad in order to make sure that they can keep their distance from the bottom of the Premier League table moving forward.

Outlining the most suitable candidate to join the Leeds frontline as part of their Sensible Transfers series on YouTube, Tifo Football analysed the young forward Sancet and assessed why he might be someone that Leeds could look to bring in during the window:

“Our pick looks like the sort of forward Bielsa would design himself if he could: Athletic Club’s Oihan Sancet.

“At 6’4″, he has a strong physical profile. He’s surprisingly quick across the ground for a well-built player, and his pressing instinct looks excellent, curving his runs to disrupt passing lanes and hunting the ball down relentlessly.

Which comedian supports the Whites?

“The caveat here is the number of minutes. Sancet has only played around 800 so far this season, and three of his four goals came in one game against Osasuna, while he also registered two assists in 22 minutes against Betis.

“He’s far from the finished article, and it’s hard to know how much more exposure to first-team football he’ll get this season, but Sancet shows the kind of attributes and profile that would make him an ideal Bielsa forward.”

Do you expect Leeds to spend in January?

Yes

No

No

Based on their analysis, it does sound like he would be someone that would fit into Leeds United’s style of play, and at such a young age, he is someone that the Whites could potentially build a team around for a good few years if he’s able to produce in England.

However, if Sancet does come in, he would likely end up being the backup to Bamford, which then has a rather nasty effect on the likes of Joe Gelhardt, who has slowly been edging his way into the Leeds side this season and who is making a name for himself at Elland Road, so a move like this could seriously dent his own minutes and development.

Perhaps this would be a better option to pursue in the summer once they have a better taste for what Gelhardt can bring to the team, because it may well be the case that their perfect backup option has been under their nose the whole time rather than having to spend money on it.
