Fabrizio Romano has featured on the Que Golazo YouTube channel to discuss the latest in Leeds United’s pursuit of Brenden Aaronson.

The Italian insider believes the player would be open to moving this window to join Leeds, but it is looking likely he will remain at RB Salzburg at least until the summer.

It has been reported the Whites have submitted two bids for the Salzburg midfielder already this month, with the latest believed to be worth £20m.

However, the West Yorkshire side are still believed to be waiting on a response from the Austrian outfit whilst the player is currently away on international duty.

And with Leeds still in the dark over whether Salzburg will take them up on their latest offer for the 21-year-old, Romano provided the following update:

“It’s true, Salzburg refused this proposal [first bid] from Leeds. They want him, they are obsessed with him, they want to sign him, but Aaronson is an important player, so they feel that he will be perfect for Leeds immediately.

“But it’s apparent that Salzburg prefer to wait. They have European football, they want to keep him until the end of the season and maybe sell him in the summer. This is why the situation is still not easy between clubs. The player would be open to this move, but on the clubs’ side, on Leeds’ side and Salzburg’s side, at the moment nothing is agreed yet because they hope to keep the player until the end of the season.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Romano’s latest update will likely come as a huge frustration to these Leeds fans given it appears the player would be open to the move.

However, the reality now is that Leeds, with a handful of days left in this window, face going into the remainder of the season having failed to bring in any new faces in January.

With the clock until the window shuts ticking down, we are interested to see if Leeds will take Salzburg’s silence as a hint to move on or if they continue in their pursuit of the American.
