Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has been discussing Tanguy Ndombele and a possible move to Everton in the January transfer window.

It’s all change at Everton right now, as the club are in the process of appointing a new manager following the departure of Rafael Benitez earlier this month, but those changes don’t appear to be reserved to what is going on in the dugout.

According to Solhekol, Everton have taken an interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ndombele. The Frenchman’s future at his current club is somewhat up in the air right now, with reports suggesting that French side Paris Saint-Germain are interested in taking him away from north London in this window.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ The Transfer Show, Solhekol discussed the Toffees’ interest in Ndombele, although he did seem to temper his claim by saying that he didn’t think it was a certainty that the move would happen.

What was the fee for Everton paid for Fabian Delph?

He said: “Tanguy Ndombele – obviously he’s held talks with PSG about moving to PSG on loan, there is the connection there with Mauricio Pochettino, who signed him for Spurs.

“I think that is his number-one option at the moment, but I was told this afternoon [Tuesday] that Everton were one of the clubs who were also interested in signing him. Now, I’m not saying it’s going to happen; it’s unlikely that is going to happen.

“Obviously, he’s a player who costs what, £60m-65m? He’s available on loan at the moment, so lots of different clubs are looking at him. I think PSG are the most likely destination for him, but Everton, also a club who would be interested in getting him if they could.”

TIF Thoughts on Kaveh Solhekol’s comments about Tanguy Ndombele and Everton…

Have you been impressed with Everton so far this season?

Yes

No

Ndombele was once described as ‘the complete midfielder’ when he signed for Tottenham by The Guardian’s David Hytner, with particular attention paid to “his strength and explosive pace, his intelligence – particularly in the offensive transitions – and his ability to regain possession”, so it’s clear he possesses promise that could suggest as to why Everton might be taking a look at him.

They need someone to take control at both ends of the pitch given their current predicament near the bottom of the table, as with 24 goals scored and 35 conceded in their opening 20 games, they’re not scoring enough and conceding too many.

It should also be observed that the fact Everton are taking an interest in him could possibly be a hint that they have got a new manager lined up already, because it would be strange to think that they want to bring him in when he may not necessarily suit the manager’s style of play.

Whether or not this move comes to fruition before the window closes, however, we’ll just have to wait and see.
