Sheffield Wednesday fans have been reacting to news surrounding one of their upcoming games in League One.

With the Christmas schedule coming up, the flurry of games would be a great chance for them to carry on their momentum and continue their push towards the top six.

However, that is not going to be the case, as the club announced that their game against Burton Albion will not take place on Boxing Day due to health issues, with their opponents stating that there are issues within both squads.

The news was relayed to the fans by the club on Twitter, where it generated a number of responses – the majority of them angry ones:

“Thanks for that, ruined my Christmas”

“Cheers son’s crying. Nice one”
“There’s a surprise”
“Absolute joke”
“I would sooner you field a team of under 21s to make a Boxing Day fixture go ahead”

Will Sheffield Wednesday be promoted this season?

Given the tradition of the Boxing Day games, you can certainly understand why these fans might be upset, but it really is a case of being better safe than sorry when it comes to the players’ health.
