Wolves journalist Liam Keen has given his thoughts on young forward Fabio Silva ahead of their next game in the Premier League.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage has got a decision to make for their upcoming game against Brighton and Hove Albion, as Raul Jimenez, someone they have had to rely on for goals in the past and who is currently their second-highest scorer this season, will be suspended for the game following his red card at the weekend.

The suspension could provide an opportunity for young Silva to finally get some game time. The 19-year-old has been an outcast this season, having only started in their Carabao Cup games and playing a combined 34 minutes in the Premier League despite being named in the matchday squad for all of their games so far.

But when Keen discussed the team selection situation on the Express and Star YouTube channel after Wolves’ game against Manchester City, he laid out how he felt Lage would likely line Wolves up for the game, and it didn’t sound good for the youngster:

“He’s got options. He’s not going to start with Fabio Silva, I’ll be shocked if he does. But he’s got options and I can see at Brighton him playing 3-5-2 again. With no Jimenez, I can see Hwang [Hee-Chan] and [Adama] Traore playing together.”

If Silva isn’t given the chance against the Seagulls this midweek to make the move from the bench to the starting XI as Keen is suggesting will be the case, then it might be a big indicator as to what his future holds, and that it might not necessarily be at Molineux.

He was given time in Jimenez’s absence last season, but if he can’t be trusted to make that same step forward during this campaign when presented with a space in the team such as this, then it might be worth him trying to make a move to another club, because it doesn’t look as if there’s much for him at Wolves under Lage.

In fairness, Silva wasn’t Lage’s player as he was brought in under the previous regime, and he might not see what former boss Nuno Espirito Santo did that convinced the club to fork out a reported £35.6m for him in 2020, and if he isn’t going to see more game time, then it might be best for Wolves to cash in on him, try to recoup as much as they can and reinvest it in someone that might be of some actual use to them moving forward.
