Speaking on the latest YouTube video from Hammers Chat, presenter Gonzo has been talking about James Tarkowski’s future ahead of the January window.

The Hammers have been linked with a potential swoop for the Premier League centre-back in the January window, with David Moyes thought to be looking at bolstering his defence.

Tarkowski, 29, is coming to the end of his current deal with Burnley, which is set to expire next summer which has also reportedly sparked interest from Newcastle United.

Moyes got a first-hand viewing of the Burnley defender at the weekend as Tarkowski helped Sean Dyche’s side to a clean sheet on Sunday against the Hammers at Turf Moor in a 0-0 draw.

And speaking about the £22.5m-rated defender’s showing against West Ham, Gonzo had the following to say about a potential move to the London Stadium for the defender:

“I thought Tarkowski did himself no harm at all, by the way.

“I can see that happening. I really, really can see that happening. Maybe not in this January, but certainly in the summer and for free as well. I think we’re going to be doing good business.”

TIF Thoughts on Tarkowski to West Ham…

The Hammers are currently experiencing some injury issues in defence, with Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna both currently sidelined due to injury (via Transfermarkt).

We think the addition of Tarkowski could be a great addition to the West Ham side given he would be available in January for a potential cut-price – or for free in the summer when his contract expires.

Given the current injury issues for the Hammers in defence, we feel Moyes should be pushing this potential swoop through for January rather than waiting for the summer when he becomes a free agent.

Not only is Tarkowski likely to attract more interest in the summer when he is available for free, but with the extra games West Ham may have to play with their runs in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League, further injuries may develop.
