A large number of Newcastle United fans have flocked to Twitter to share their frustrations at the latest update to emerge ahead of their Premier League clash on Sunday.
It has been confirmed Martin Atkinson will take charge of their game at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon against Manchester City as they look to earn some vital points in their battle against the drop.
Is Atkinson worse than Mike Dean?
Yes
No
The Toon go into the game on the back of another defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool during the week which left them stuck on 10 points and with a three-point deficit to safety.
And ahead of their 18th game of the Premier League campaign, these Toon fans flooded to Twitter to share their anger with Atkinson’s appointment.
What did these Newcastle fans have to say?
“at least one penalty will be called against us”
The 50-year-old referee has taken charge of 47 Newcastle games over his career in which the Toon have lost more games (18) than they have won (17), with the latest coming in their defeat against West Ham United earlier this season (via Transfermarkt).
There have been five red cards shown from Atkinson to Newcastle players in those games and it is apparent these fans feel they now have another factor to compete with on Sunday.
