Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the performance of Jamaal Lascelles during their recent game in the Premier League

With their opponents coming into the game with the best scoring record in the league with 45 goals in their opening 16 games, it was always going to be a tough night for Newcastle United to keep their opponents at bay.

However, they weren’t able to do so, as despite taking the lead inside the opening ten minutes, two goals in the space of five minutes set the stage for a Liverpool comeback, with the hosts on top throughout the night as they peppered Newcastle net with 22 shots during the game (via WhoScored).

Can you name who scored the most league goals for Newcastle United in years gone by? Let's see if you can starting with 2020/21

One of the worst performers on the night for Eddie Howe’s men, at least according to the fans that were commenting on the game online, was the 28-year-old skipper, as they tore into him on social media, citing a whole host of reasons for letting the team down:

“Lascelles constantly invites pressure by backward passing. Get rid of him”

“LASCELLES AINT A SERIOUS BALLER”
“Lascelles is nothing but a liability I can’t wait till two-three years down the line when these players are forgotten about”
“Decline in Lascelles is shocking”
“Lascelles nearly gave away another penalty with a barge on Oxlade-Chamberlain. He looks VERY slow.”
“Lascelles playing Mane onside again shock”
“Lascelles in particular has got worse and worse. Hayden has always been a walking yellow/red card”

Not exactly the kind of performance you want to see from your captain. Which given the recent discussion about him possibly having the armband taken off him, you’d think that he’d want to put in a better performance, not just to keep his armband, but also to keep his place in the team and Newcastle’s place in the division.
