Newcastle United fans were left fuming with Mike Dean for more than one incident in their 3-1 defeat at Anfield on Thursday night.

After Jonjo Shelvey opened to scoring with a stunning strike, Liverpool equalised through Diogo Jota controversially.

The Portuguese forward turned home a cross from Sadio Mane on the second time of asking, but Isaac Hayden was down holding his head and he was the reason Jota was onside. Dean didn’t stop play and the goal stood.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late rocket from distance confirmed it was to be another defeat for Eddie Howe and his men, but the Toon Army were furious with where the referee positioned himself for the goal.

Will Newcastle be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

When you feel multiple decisions go against you in a game, especially key ones around goals you’ll always be angry, and the Newcastle fans were.

Here’s how these Newcastle fans reacted:

“That is disgusting, clearly blocking the player and he had no need to run across the ball, Premier League should be ashamed.” @bignes1080

“Referee’s in PL are so ego-based they would refuse to change a decision even if shown on a VAR screen. Look at the ‘penalty’ incident. Any right-minded, fair individual would want as many angles as they could before a decision. Not PL referees though.” @samwi91

“Mike Dean imprints his own ego on every game he referees.” @_JackGriffith

“We were robbed AGAIN.” @dacey999

“One of the many shocking moments in that game. He has absolutely no reason to move from where he was initially.” @torbennett_

“Disgraceful refereeing for the entire game! What was he doing here????” @MLaws86

Cleary incredibly frustrated by Dean’s positioning, the official was slated by Newcastle fans after another Premier League defeat and you can see why, the screenshot posted by NUFC360 doesn’t look good.

Can you name who scored the most league goals for Newcastle United in years gone by? Let's see if you can starting with 2020/21

Although it looks like he is potentially blocking Martin Dubravka, the ‘keeper doesn’t complain to the referee so you’d have to say he probably didn’t have an impact on the goal, it was just a very good strike from the England full-back.
