Leeds United: Phil Hay on Marcelo Bielsa’s future

|

The Leeds United journalist, Phil Hay, has been speaking about what the future holds for Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.

Leeds United fell to their heaviest defeat under Bielsa this week when Man City put seven past them without reply and the club’s manager described it as the worst his team had ever played under him.

Will Leeds be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

It has been a very tough season for Leeds and Bielsa who’ve had to cope with inconsistency on the pitch and then injuries away from it which has seen them hover around the bottom three and are just five points above the drop zone, but that has not changed the mood around the club in terms of Bielsa’s future.

Hay has been speaking about what the Leeds board think of Bielsa’s future on The Phil Hay Show.

(43:28) “The important thing to say here is that I don’t think Bielsa being sacked is in any way a thing at Leeds and I don’t think it’s a thing with the supporters.

“I was talking about the survey that we’ve done earlier and there was a huge amount of faith in him still and to my mind, there’s certainly not a thing with the club and the board.

“Nobody’s pretending the results have been good this season but I think the general feeling is and I happen to agree with this really strongly, that this squad is built in such a way that it is far better for Bielsa to be in charge than anybody else.”

TIF Thoughts on Bielsa’s future…

If Leeds were to sack Bielsa and bring in a new manager then they would essentially be ripping up four years worth of work and hard training for nothing and any new boss would have to overhaul everything the Argentine has done from transfer dealings and training to the way they play on the pitch, with Bielsa’s man-marking being very unique.

With Hay claiming that neither fans nor the board have even entertained the idea of potentially sacking Bielsa shows the magnitude of job he has done at Elland Road since arriving and how much trust everyone places in him.
