Newcastle United suffered yet another defeat on Thursday night, this time to a title-chasing team. However, there was more worry after the game.

Jamal Lewis was forced off after a quarter of an hour through injury, and after the game Eddie Howe said that it looks ‘bad’ which will have been the last thing the Newcastle fans wanted to hear.

In previous weeks we have seen Lewis receive plenty of praise from the Newcastle fans for his performances, but now he could be sidelined for a while. With limited options now at left back, January will be vital for Howe.

You wouldn’t have been surprised if it was an area he wanted to strengthen anyway, but now it looks paramount.

What the Newcastle fans said

“Ritchie against City is terrifying. I never thought I’d say this but play Clarke instead. At least he’s left footed.” @dazzacon

“Needed a new LB in January anyways…” @jimknowlson

“Very bad news. I do not like reading all the Matt Ritchie hate during games. He’s playing a position he should not have to be playing at his stage of career” @Alonosi

“Just as he was getting a run in the team after like a year out. Shame.” @LiamDowson_55

“Not what we needed, has been very good since he came in.” @nufcrichys

“Can’t catch a break this season.” @johndavidrees

“Very disappointed for the lad.” @glenn2502

It’s clearly a worrying time for Newcastle United supporters, as things don’t get easier after Thursday’s trip to Anfield.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

Either side of Christmas, in their next two fixtures, they welcome both Manchester clubs to St James’ Park, tasks that you’d expect to be difficult for Howe in normal circumstances, let alone with key players missing through injury.

It’s an important period for the Magpies who are three points adrift of safety, despite playing a game extra than 17th placed Watford.
