A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to Twitter to voice their frustrations with the latest announcement to emerge ahead of their next Premier League clash.

On Tuesday morning, it was announced referee Mike Dean would be officiating the Toon’s clash on Thursday night, with Simon Hooper acting as VAR.

Eddie Howe’s side will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing weekend defeat against Leicester City, but will face an uphill task against title contenders Liverpool on Merseyside.

With Jurgen Klopp’s side in such impressive form this season, it is clear these fans feel they need everything to go their way on Thursday to get anything from the game – and this update does not seem to be one of them.

What did these Newcastle fans have to say?

“Ah wey, there’s our win down the drain”

“As Mike Dean is from the area and supports Tranmere, this does not seem the fairest decision!!”
“There goes any chance of winning. The EPL is truly just all in taking us down”
“and I thought it couldn’t get any worse”
“You’ve got to be kidding me”
“The Mike Dean show it is then”
“His son’s a season ticket holder at Liverpool, it’s a joke he’s allowed to ref there. That said we could have officials wearing our kit and we’d still get battered, they have world class players.”

The 53-year-old referee has been in charge of 54 Newcastle games in his career, which have seen the Toon win on just 19 occasions, with 21 of those games ending in defeat (as per Transfermarkt).

As the Toon remain planted in the relegation zone, it is not surprising these fans do not seem optimistic ahead of their trip to Anfield, with the Reds only losing two of their games with Dean in charge.
