A number of Newcastle United fans have flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on a recent claim to emerge regarding the defender Pontus Jansson.

According to The Guardian, the Magpies are one of three clubs showing interest in the Swedish defender as his contract edges closer to its end.

Would Jansson improve NUFC?

It is reported Everton and Leicester City are also set to provide Newcastle with competition to land the 30-year-old in the January window as they aim to bolster their defences.

The Brentford centre-back joined the Bees in the summer of 2019 from Leeds United, but he only has a matter of months remaining on his current deal with Thomas Frank’s side (via Transfermarkt).

And with the new owners on Tyneside set for their first transfer window in charge of the Toon, these fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the claim.

What did these Newcastle fans have to say?

“Yes please”

“I wouldn’t mind him as he’s a proper leader.. Even if he doesn’t start regularly its good to have someone like him in the dressing room. He can also play out from the back which he’s done for Bielsas Leeds and For Brentford. Getting Jansson would also weaken a a relegation rival”
“Actually a baller snap him up if possible”
“I’d take him”
“Is he right or left sided? Cb”
“just go abroad there is so many quality players out of contract that we can snap up”

Jansson has played an integral part in Brentford’s impressive start to the campaign, starting every game as the Bees sit in 10th spot of the Premier League table.

And considering Brentford have conceded 12 fewer goals than the Magpies this season, it is no surprise most of these fans would like to see the 30-year-old added to their squad in January.
