Newcastle United have been hunting for a director of football since the takeover by PIF earlier this year, with strong links to Dan Ashworth as of late.

Now, AS Monaco’s sporting director Paul Mitchell has put himself forward for the vacancy at St. James’ Park, according to journalist Romain Molina. It’s yet another big name linked to the role, despite an appointment still not appearing that close.

Will Newcastle be relegated?

No!

It does appear that the new owners are taking their time to make sure they appoint the correct person for the job. They brought in Nick Hammond on a short-term deal as a transfer consultant, presumably to oversee January while they look to find the right candidate.

The news has been doing the rounds on social media, with the Newcastle fans delighted with the news.

How the Newcastle fans reacted…

“100% would take him, the man is a genius.”

@TJHall81755578

“He did a great job at Spurs. Hard to judge at Monaco because he hasn’t been there long but I like Diatta and Caio Henrique. Jury is out on Boadu.”

@OfficielKaybaye

“I’d be happy as he had a spell at Halifax Town (FC Halifax now, my hometown club) #NUFC.”

@Danielwoodward6

“Wow this.”

@1892Jake

“He’s very good as well. Him or Ashworth will do.”

@JSpence24

“I’d be fairly happy.”

@nufcrichys

It’s clear to see that Newcastle fans would be happy to see him appointed, even more so when you take a look at his CV.
