Newcastle United fans may not have had the best year following the fortunes of their team on the field, but it’s been a success off it.

In October Mike Ashley was bought out of the club by PIF from Saudi Arabia, making them the richest club in the world. The new ownership has excited fans, especially after their latest update on Christmas day.

Are optimistic about the January window?

The official club account on Twitter shared a Christmas message from Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, with the fans delighted in the responses, conveying their jubilation.

What the Newcastle fans said

“Owners that treat us like family. Brings a tear to the eye. #NUFC.” @ToonMouthTyne

“Imagine Ashley sending this!” @Peglegmacgreg

“Owners that actually care. Love this. Thank you so much and enjoy your Christmas guys.” @scxttnufc

“Wow good times, thank you for giving us hope and Merry Christmas.” @DavidTa41816701

“Thank you both. Hope is hard to deliver. You’ve done it. Our time will come #NUFC.” @tmc_tmc10

“Such a refreshing change to have a Christmas message from the new owners, this Christmas just gets merrier.” @DavidJo78625903

“The owners coming out and wishing everyone a happy Christmas is a touch of class. Would never see Mike Ashley do that! This lot are levels above. Pure class. Let’s do the business in January, let’s get behind them” @BatchyNUFC

A change in ownership ultimately led to the sacking of Steve Bruce and the hiring of Eddie Howe, and since then the Magpies have finally won a game in the league.

Which iconic boxer is a reported Newcastle fan?

This doesn’t mean it’s perfect, the club are still struggling and languishing in the relegation spots, winning just one game so far.

However, there is optimism with the January transfer window just around the corner. Being the richest club in the world gives you serious spending powers, could that be Newcastle’s saviour?

Only time will tell, but one thing we know for certain, is that as things stand, reinforcements are going to be vital.
