Ian McGarry has been speaking on The Transfer Window podcast about what current Newcastle United players think when a new signing arrives.

It appears that next month is going to be a busy and potentially expensive one for Newcastle as they look to save their season by dipping into the January transfer market with money that the teams around them can only dream of having.

Should Newcastle sign Lingard?

No!

A report in The Daily Mail has claimed that the Magpies already have five players on their radar to target in the upcoming window, but that would be a lot of players to mix into a squad that has been together for several years, and especially if a big name such as Jesse Lingard arrived, it could cause some friction in the dressing room.

McGarry has revealed what the current Newcastle players think when someone new arrives earning a lot of money.

“Newcastle has always been quite a political club in terms of players, and we both know that players who are at the club already don’t like it when someone else comes in who isn’t Cristiano Ronaldo, or Bruno Fernandes or Kylian Mbappe, but gets twice the amount of money that they’re earning, having not achieved anything – not that many Newcastle players have at the club.”

Surely Newcastle fans will be worried to find out that players get annoyed when someone starts earning more money than them as that could potentially ruin a team’s harmony at a time when they need to all be pulling together to avoid relegation.

There could well be some behind-the-scenes problems if someone like Lingard arrives given that Newcastle’s new owners are willing to offer him £200,000 per week to come and help keep the Magpies in the Premier League, as reported by McGarry on the same podcast (18:15).

Something that is different now, though, is that Mike Ashley is gone and everything from his reign has gone, so that may now change the mentality within the squad and instead of competing for wages, they could start pushing together all for one goal.
