Plenty of Newcastle United fans have reacted with fury after seeing a replay of Ryan Fraser being controversially denied a penalty in the loss to Manchester City.

In their last Premier League match, the Magpies were beaten heavily at home, 4-0 by Pep Guardiola and co. However, when Newcastle were only 2-0 down – and still in the game – Fraser chased after a long ball. While Joao Cancelo got their first, goalkeeper Ederson slid into the Newcastle man, wiping him out completely.

Despite the undeniable contact, the referee decided to allow play to go on, while VAR also chose not to intervene.

Will Eddie Howe get sacked by the end of the season?

Footage of the incident was later shared online by the official Sky Sports Twitter page. After receiving the incident, it’s fair to say the Newcastle supporters were far from happy.

Here’s what these NUFC fans said

“A total disgrace – only the big teams get those decisions now.”
“Watching back, this is so bad, it’s actually quite funny. Love Redknapp’s, “That’s a foul” comment on 27 secs. Genuine confusion in his voice. #NUFC.”
“Honestly the state of it.”
“The more you watch the more baffling the decision looks.”
“Still gobsmacked. But so unsurprised.”
“Pathetic decision.”
It’s clear to see just how unhappy these fans are with the officiating in that particular moment.
Some may reason that with Newcastle already trailing 2-0, the call may have been inconsequential. But goals can change games, and a penalty could have been decisive in turning the momentum of the match in the Magpies’ favour.
