Leeds United fans have been reacting to news and stats about the referee for their upcoming game in the Premier League.

It’s fair to say that referees aren’t exactly Leeds United’s friends at the moment, as they have just this weekend fallen 3-2 away at Stamford Bridge in which they saw two penalties given against them, one of which was deep into added time.

And given that their next game is against reigning champions and league leaders Manchester City, they are going to need all the help they can get if they are to stand a chance of getting anything from the Etihad Stadium. However, according to some supporters, it doesn’t look as if they are going to get any such luck after seeing who will be refereeing the clash.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

The Premier League announced that Paul Tierney will be in charge of the game, with the often-controversial Mike Dean as fourth official.

Leeds United fan @El_Loco_Jo put together a thread about referee Tierney on Twitter, in which they pointed out that “The Lancashire ref last took charge of Leeds on the opening day of the season in the 5-1 loss to Manchester United”, along with some other interesting statistics about times Tierney has been put in charge – a thread which certainly did not go down well with the Leeds United fans on Twitter when they saw it:

“Might as well not turn up, Mike Dean to get MB sent off for sitting on his bucket offensively and don’t get me started on Darren England in VAR”

“Dean back again. Oh Jesus. Let’s all start a protest”
“Could we start a petition to get Mike Dean banned and a massive fine for bringing the game into disrepute”
“Just give them the points now, let’s just sit this one out and have a rest”
“Mike Dean and “official” should never be uttered in the same sentence.”
“Incoming 8 penalties for city”

Will Leeds be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Let’s just hope that Tierney, Dean or any of the refereeing crew don’t grab any headlines for their performances during the game and that the result is decided by the players on the field.
