Dave Prentice has been speaking on the Royal Blue podcast about some of the decisions that Farhad Moshiri has made at Everton in the past.

Everton’s owner made yet another big decision this week as the club parted ways with director of football Marcel Brands, who had been with the club since 2018. This may not have come as a surprise given how many of the players signed under Brands cost a lot of money and not returned much for the Toffees.

Should Everton sack Benitez?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

With Everton seemingly in a slump, Moshiri must’ve deemed it necessary to make a change at the club, and after years of hiring and firing managers without achieving any success, the owner has decided to axe someone further away from the pitch, and the immediate aftermath saw the Toffees pick up their first win in nine league matches, but that doesn’t excuse some of the decisions he’s made in the past.

Prentice highlighted and spoke about some of the questionable transfer decisions made by Moshiri.

“There have been decisions in the past – the bid that went in for Wilfried Zaha, which was after the club decided that they weren’t going to go in for him.

“Then we had the Alex Iwobi situation which we largely believe, you know, it was Farhad Moshiri himself wanting to do the deal for that, which is just madness.”

TIF Thoughts on Moshiri…

If it wasn’t for Moshiri being a major backer of Everton’s new stadium, which will see the Toffees play at a 52,888-capacity ground, the owner himself may have come in for a lot more criticism, especially if he was the man behind signing Iwobi for £27 million, with the Nigerian only scoring three league goals.

Ultimately, Moshiri is the financial muscle at Everton as since he became the majority shareholder in 2018, the Toffees have become very lavish spenders, although the best success he’s experienced is an eighth-placed finish, which is underachieving, to say the least – especially given the money that’s been spent.

Therefore, you can see why Prentice has pointed out how Moshiri cannot be absolved of all blame despite the departure of Brands earlier this week.
