Plenty of Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted angrily to footage of Cristian Romero while he was out on international duty.

With the World Cup qualifying stages coming to an end, Argentina managed to claim a point against Brazil, ensuring their spot in Qatar with a 0-0 draw – their opposition had already qualified.

While the match did not produce any goals, it did provide Spurs fans with one moment to catch the eye. Indeed, early on in the first half, with the ball racing towards the byline, Romero and Brazil’s Vinicius Jr came together.

Is Cristian Romero Spurs' best defender?

In a clip shared online by Brazilian media page Globo Esporte, the Argentine showed great strength and a glimpse of the dark arts, as he barged into his opponent, forcing the ball off him to claim the goal kick.

When the footage emerged on Twitter, it had many Spurs supporters discussing their centre-back.

Here’s what these Tottenham fans said…

“As good as he’s looked at times, he looks like he’s going to get at least a yellow every game…and that’s a definite foul!”
“Another ridiculously rash challenge from an extremely rash player.”
“This is why I have doubts about Romero. If Sanchez did this at Spurs we’d call for his head…”
“Sanchez does this and he’s an idiot  – Sanchez is way better than some on here think & will cover fine for Cuti.”
“That’s just a needless foul.”
“Foul. This guy is so clumsy and no one seems to recognise it.”
Judging from these comments, the supporters didn’t really seem to enjoy the display of physicality from their central defender.

Unfortunately for Romero, he didn’t come through the game unscathed either. Indeed, after suffering an issue with his hamstring, he will now reportedly undergo tests to work out just how bad this injury could be.
