Podcaster Steve Grant has said that he will be ‘amazed’ if Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster stays at the club beyond this season.

As things stand, the 33-year-old will see his contract with the Saints expire at the end of this season in June 2022. Having been limited to just three appearances so far this season – all of which have come in the Carabao Cup – it’s safe to say Forster is not seen as the club’s number-one option.

And now, while speaking on the latest episode of the Total Saints podcast, Grant has claimed that the former England international will leave Southampton in the near future.

He said: “Forster is out of contract in the summer, and by all accounts will be leaving. I mean, I’d be absolutely amazed if there’s any change in that situation between now and June.”

TIF Thoughts on Fraser Forster and Southampton…

As things stand, the first-choice goalkeeper on the south coast currently seems to be Alex McCarthy. Indeed, the 31-year-old has started every Premier League game so far, keeping five clean sheets along the way.

According to The Athletic, the shot-stopper was also handed a new three-year contract earlier this season towards the end of August – this clearly shows who Ralph Hasenhuttl has put his faith in.

In what position did Southampton finish in these seasons? Starting off with 2020/21

With no contract offer forthcoming for Forster, it does look as if his time with the Saints is soon to reach an end. Judging from Grant’s latest claim, there can be little doubt over the situation now.

It seems the only question left is where Forster will end up.
