Journalist Matthew Fulton has given his view on Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi following the start he has made to his career at the club.

The Japanese international has made a fantastic start to life at Celtic Park since he was signed in July from Vissel Kobe, with eight goals so far in his 11 games for the club. On top of that, he has already started to develop a relationship with the supporters, with The Daily Record claiming that he had earned ‘instant hero status’ back in August.

However, a start like that was always likely to grab attention from other clubs, and according to a report from Calcio Mercato, English Premier League side Southampton have shown an interest in signing him already.

But speaking on the latest edition of the Record Celtic podcast, Fulton claimed that he doesn’t see Kyogo being tempted to move so quickly, and feels that he could very well stick around the club for a number of years to come:

“Ange [Postecoglou] obviously has a relationship with him. I think he could really commit himself to Celtic for years to come.

“I don’t see him being tempted by the lure of a Premier League offer or maybe even a Championship offer. I could see him genuinely wanting to play for Celtic for years.

“Yeah, we’re relying on him a bit, but you’re hoping that he’s going to stay and he’s going to become a bit of a legend. So I think he’s well on his way to doing that.”

TIF Thoughts on Matthew Fulton’s comments about Kyogo Furuhashi and Celtic…

Is Kyogo Celtic's best player?

Yes

Yes

No

No

If Kyogo can carry on his form from the start of the season throughout the rest of the campaign, then there’s no doubt that the club have got something special on their hands with the 26-year-old.

But as the saying goes, everybody has their price, and with there already being interest in him from a Premier League side, if he carries on scoring goals, then it probably won’t be long before more clubs start taking a look at him.

And whilst Fulton might be right in that Kyogo might not want to leave right now, if Celtic are handed an offer that they simply can’t refuse, then he might not get a lot of choice in the matter.

So it might simply be a case of Celtic fans enjoying him whilst they still can, because as history shows, Celtic are a selling club – and they could be forced to do the same once again with Kyogo.
