Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield reckons that if Wolves had gone for Renato Sanches earlier in the transfer window then they possibly would have got him.

Sky Sports reported that Wolves ended talks with Lille over Renato Sanches as the two clubs couldn’t agree on a loan deal, whilst at the time the midfielder was recovering from a knee injury and faced a few more weeks on the sidelines.

Do you think Wolves will make another move for Sanches in January?

Hatfield believes that had Wolves moved for him earlier in the window then they might have secured the signing of the 24-year-old.

“It was a shame really because for Wolves it was a little bit frustrating acting so late in the window. If they’d have gone for him earlier in the window, you maybe would have picked him up before he even got injured, then it would obviously be a different story,” Hatfield told This is Futbol.

Sanches helped Lille to the Ligue 1 title and French Super Cup last season and the current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was full of praise for him after Bayern Munich took on the midfielder’s former side Benfica some years ago.

“He’s far and away one of the best young players in Europe. He has abundant quality and character and covers a huge amount of ground. He has a great future ahead of him,” Guardiola was quoted as saying by DW.

The 24-year-old has featured predominantly as a central midfielder throughout his career, but he has also played as both a right and left midfielder and also further forward as an attacking midfielder showing he has versatility to his game.
