According to podcaster Dave Walker, Saïd Benrahma is the ‘most exciting player’ West Ham United have had since Dimitri Payet.

After a tentative but promising first campaign with the club – where he scored one goal in 30 league appearances – the former Brentford man is finally starting to leave his mark on the team.

This season, he has been trusted to start all nine Premier League games and has already scored three goals. His dangerous style of play has seen him praised by manager David Moyes.

Now, while talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Walker claimed that Benrahma just ‘needs game time’ to reach and maintain his ‘scary’ full potential.

He explained his thoughts, saying (01:16:58): “I adore Benrahma, I think he’s arguably the most exciting player we’ve had since Payet. I think he is growing season by season.

“He needs game time, he is definitely a player that needs to play week in week out. And, you know, the scary thing about him is I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him.

“But yet we’ve seen enough of him to see just how good he is or can be. So you know, looks he might have the odd game where he isn’t at his best. But he’s the sort of player that’s a match-winner.”

TIF thoughts on Benrahma and West Ham…

The Hammers have made a pretty bright start to the current campaign. Not only have they won all three of their opening Europa League, matches, they also currently sit fourth in the league.

Having been a key part of that fine form, it’s fairly easy to understand why the winger is starting to build up some hype around himself.

Still, Payet scored 15 goals and claimed 23 assists in just 60 appearances for the club – those are levels that Benrahma has not quite reached just yet.

At 26 years of age, though, the Algerian could be set to hit his peak years soon.
