On the latest episode of the Gold & Guest talk Tottenham podcast, journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing a potential injury concern in the squad.

Summer signing Cristian Romero started on the weekend against Aston Villa after playing the full 90 minutes on Thursday night in the Europa Conference League (via Transfermarkt).

However, Gold revealed an observation from the weekend, with the Argentine believed to be carrying a slight limp in the game against Dean Smith’s side.

Romero has already missed game time with Spurs since arriving after struggling from a knee injury he was suffering from during this summer’s Copa America tournament with his national side.

Discussing the centre-back’s display on the weekend and a potential cause for concern regarding the Argentine’s fitness, Gold had the following to say.

“I think he still has the little knee issues. I saw him limp a few times – this is why the international break, other than being an utter bore-fest, I just feel, for someone like Romero, two weeks for him to just rest that knee would be so perfect.

“But they just don’t take it, do they? They don’t, they just don’t want to. They want to play for their country, and I get it. If you’re an Argentinian and you’re playing with [Lionel] Messi and all that and it’s a huge honour, I do understand it.”

TIF Thoughts on Romero’s start at Spurs…

We think this will come as a huge worry for Tottenham fans, given the niggles Romero has already had this season with his knee issue, which he clearly hadn’t fully recovered from when he arrived in north London.

On the back of this claim, the concerns of the fans will only be emphasised with the defender having headed off for the latest instalment of World Cup qualifiers.

Going by Gold’s observation, it would have been ideal if Romero was able to use the international break to make sure he was right for when Premier League action picks up again.

Instead, it is not known whether Romero and Giovani Lo Celso will have returned from their quarantine period to face Newcastle United in their next league clash.
