A whole host of Newcastle United fans are very happy on Twitter to see Marc Overmars linked with the club.

With Steve Bruce having finally been relieved of his duties at St. James’ Park, the search for his successor is truly on for the club’s new owners, however, this is not the only area they are looking to shake up, with a new director of football or sporting director earmarked as a likelihood.

Should Fonseca replace Bruce?

Since the Magpies were taken over two weeks ago, several high-profile figures within football have been linked with roles at the club, including Ralf Rangnick, Luis Campos and now, former Arsenal winger Overmars has been touted for a role on Tyneside following reports in Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.

A lot of Newcastle fans are delighted on Twitter to see Overmars linked with a role at the club.

What have these Newcastle fans been saying?

If true this would be an excellent appointment. Evolved Ajax twice whilst sticking to Ajax’s core values. Bring the lads back together I say: ten Haag, de ligt, de Jong, donny #letsgetcarriedaway

“He’s extremely highly rated in his role”

@DayleBarron

“Luis campos would be my pick but any of the DOF we’ve been linked with would be sensational”

@TantumRob

“would be dreamy”

@Hamill_CA

“Would be a great appointment, he’s done some great work at Ajax as DoF. Great experience in dealing with football operations which the new owners don’t have. Would be interesting to see if he could implement the Ajax style academy set up at Newcastle”

Overmars has been the director of football at Ajax since 2012 and that means he has overseen the sales of Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and Kasper Dolberg, all while keeping Ajax competitive both domestically and in Europe, with the latter being proven after their demolition of Borussia Dortmund in midweek.
