Newcastle United fans have been reacting to comments that have emerged from captain Jamaal Lascelles.
Lascelles has certainly experienced a lot during his time at St James’ Park since arriving in 2015 following his sign and loan-back deal with Nottingham Forest, experiencing relegation in 2016, promotion in 2017, their battle against the drop in 2021 and now another battle to survive coupled with the club’s recent takeover this season.
Speaking in a recent interview with local newspaper The Chronicle, Lascelles spoke about the current group of players and how they intend to get out of their current battle against relegation “Now we have backing from the new owners after the takeover. But in the short-term, it is now down to us to supply.”
However, his comments appeared to fall on deaf ears, as when the comments were relayed to the fans by journalist Lee Ryder on social media, they tore into the 27-year-old defender, with some claiming that he isn’t up to the job anymore:
“I’d rather he just didn’t speak at this point”
Is Lascelles a Premier League quality player?
Yes
No
Certainly not a great show of support from the Newcastle United faithful in their captain, who might want to take these fan’s words on board, because with the club seemingly willing to invest, he might be one of the players that is forced to make way if they bring in another central defender this January.
