Former Tottenham Hotspur player Graham Roberts says that there have been rumours that Real Madrid want to sign Sergio Reguilon back.

El Nacional (via 90min) reported that the Spanish giants are considering activating the buy-back clause put in Reguilon’s contract when he signed for Tottenham in 2020 and have also said that the fee for the buy-back is €40million (£34m).

Last season Reguilon featured in 36 matches for Tottenham in all competitions, registering six assists, and whilst he is a natural left-back he did also play further forward as a left midfielder.

Amidst the rumours of a return to Real Madrid could be on the cards Roberts was full of praise for Reguilon’s performance last weekend, telling This is Futbol: “There’s rumours that Real Madrid are looking to try and buy him back. It is what it is but he needs play like that every week now, you have to give that amount of consistency now and if you don’t, then players move on.”

Prior to the West Ham fixture this weekend, Reguilon leads the assist charts for Spurs in the Premier League after providing two goals for his teammates and also has made the greatest number of interceptions with 17.

After having a good start to the season, you would imagine that everyone at Spurs will be hoping that Reguilon stays at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for many more years to come.
