Former Tottenham Hotspur player Graham Roberts believes that James Tarkowski will double or treble his earnings if he goes to Newcastle United.

The 28-year-old’s contract at Turf Moor expires in June 2022, with former Burnley player Paul Robinson confirming to Football Insider that Burnley have offered Tarkowski a new deal, saying: “I know for a fact that the club have offered him a great deal. He’s not signing so clearly his head has been turned and he wants out.”

Roberts believes that if the central defender was to join Newcastle he would double or treble his earnings, telling This is Futbol: “So, the first thing I think they’re going to do is you’re looking at people like James Tarkowski, who’s probably on about fifty thousand a week, I don’t know what he’s on, he’s going to double or treble that isn’t he to go to Newcastle, because his contracts up at the end of the season.”

The Telegraph reported that Tarkowski is understood to be keen on a move to St James’ Park and that he could become one of the first signings under the new ownership at Newcastle United.

After Newcastle parted company with manager Steve Bruce earlier this week, Graeme Jones has taken temporary charge of the first-team until a permanent successor to Bruce is found.

One name that the Telegraph have reported is amongst the front runner for the post is former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca, who was close to being appointed Tottenham Hotspur head coach.
