Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield would be surprised if Aston Villa made a move for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah in January or next summer.

Journalist Ekrem Konur reported via his Twitter account that Nketiah wants regular first-team football and that Brentford, Leeds and Aston Villa are all showing an interest in the youngster.

The 22-year-old was linked with a move to Crystal Palace during the summer but the Athletic reported that the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement with Palace looking at a deal worth £10million and Arsenal wanting to receive around £20million for their striker.

Do you think Arsenal will sell Nketiah in January?

Hatfield would be surprised if Villa made a move for Nketiah, telling This is Futbol: “It would surprise me if they were in for Nketiah particularly this January or in the summer just because they’ve got two really proven strikers in that position, not to mention they’ve got Cameron Archer, who they obviously rate highly, and Keinan Davis, not to mention Wesley’s out on loan, although we don’t know what’s going to happen with him in the future.”

Dean Smith bolstered his attacking ranks this summer by adding striker Danny Ings. The 29-year-old made the move to Villa Park from Southampton for a £25m fee according to BBC Sport and hit the ground running straight away for his new club as he scored in both his opening two Premier League matches.

With the reports that Nketiah is seeking first-team football, Arsenal may look to let him go during the January transfer window and get a fee for him as the forward only has less than a year left on his contract.
