Former Premier League player Carlton Palmer believes that Mauro Icardi would be a good replacement for Harry Kane should he leave Tottenham. 

Calciomercato (via Daily Star ) reported earlier this month that Tottenham and Juventus are interested in Icardi with Newcastle United also joining the race for him.

Kane was linked with a move away from Spurs this summer with Manchester City the destination touted, but the England international stayed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the August 31 deadline.

Palmer believes that if he does eventually leave, Icardi would a suitable successor, telling This is Futbol when asked if the Argentine would be a good replacement: “I mean for sure, listen, anybody who scores goals. Obviously if you’re going to lose a player like Harry Kane with his assists, with his goals, you need somebody who is going to come in and you’re going to struggle to find somebody to emulate that, but you need to get somebody as close as you can to it.”

Icardi is playing under former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain now and is a good goal scorer, as throughout his career he has scored over 200 goals for Sampdoria, Inter Milan and PSG combined.

Whilst there is reported interest in the 28-year-old, journalist Fabrizio Romano posted on his personal Twitter account that Icardi isn’t planning on leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the next few months.
