TalkSport journalist Alex Crook has provided an interesting update surrounding Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe.

Having been on the fringes of the first team growing up, Smith Rowe has really started to make an impact on the Arsenal side in recent years. He is part of the youthful revolution that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has installed during the past 12 months, one that has already seen fellow academy graduate Bukayo Saka go from England debut to being part of the England squad for this summer’s European Championships in the space of a season.

He showed his importance to the Arsenal side this past Friday night, scoring one goal and assisting another as they defeated Aston Villa 3-1 at the Emirates.

Speaking on the TalkSport Gameday podcast (45:02), Crook discussed the Gunners’ performance on Friday night and gave a special mention to the 21-year-old, before hinting that there might be some big things coming for him in the future:

“Have to say I was really encouraged by Arsenal’s performance, I thought Smith Rowe was excellent, must be catching Gareth Southgate’s eye, now I understand he is.”

Will Emile Smith Rowe help Arsenal back into Europe this season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

A call-up would certainly be just reward for the hard work that Smith Rowe has put in, both last season where he managed to bag seven goal and eight assists in all competitions, and this one where he is currently on three goals and two assists.

On top of that though, the development that will come from being part of the national side, training alongside and against players of international quality should provide a huge boost to his skillset, which in turn should help Arsenal as they try to attempt to move on as a club with Arteta and his project.

So this is something that Arsenal, both as a club and a fanbase should be hoping for, because the benefit that it could bring them in the long run could be crucial if they are to get back to the top of the game like there were during the peak of the Arsene Wenger era.
