Scottish football pundit Peter Martin has claimed Celtic’s ‘battle’ will be to finish second in the league this season – if they persevere with Albian Ajeti.

The Bhoys goalscoring issues were apparent over the past weekend as they struck the woodwork on three occasions in a disappointing 1-1 draw against Dundee United.

Celtic have been without key forward Kyogo Furuhashi for a number of games of late, and new centre-forward Giorgos Giakoumakis is also yet to make an appearance for his new club.

The absence of those men was certainly felt in their most recent game, and to make things worse, alternative striker Ajeti produced the ‘miss of the season‘ during the match, costing his team a shot at a much-needed three points.

While discussing the Swiss forward on the PLZ Football Show, Martin claimed that Ajeti wasn’t good enough to help Celtic challenge for the title.

He explained: “If they persevere with Albian Ajeti for any stretch over the next few weeks, I think their battle will be to see if they can finish second, because he’s not a goalscorer.”

TIF Thoughts on Albian Ajeti and Celtic…

The Bhoys have really missed Kyogo in the month of September. Before his injury, he had seven goals in nine games across all competitions this season.

Without access to the Japanese international’s goalscoring prowess this month, Celtic have won just one of their three league games.

Unfortunately, Ajeti has not been able to provide the goals to help deal with Kyogo’s absence with just three goals in 10 games this season, and nine in 41 matches across his whole Celtic career.

It’s certainly hard not to look at those numbers and agree with Martin’s claim.
