A whole host of Leeds United fans are delighted on Twitter as Liam McCarron has signed a new deal with the club.

As Leeds’ injury list continues to extend every passing week, a lot of the Under-23 players may be handed their chance to impress, or at least make the bench as they did against Newcastle United. One of those who was a substitute that day was McCarron, who has been with the club since he joined from Carlisle United in 2019.

Do Leeds need a new left-back?

There is a clear pathway into the first team, with Crysencio Summerville making his league debut against the Magpies last Friday and Charlie Cresswell impressing in the Carabao Cup against Fulham.

Speaking of the latter, Marcelo Bielsa claimed that the defender has ‘taken a step forward‘ following his performance in midweek, and now that McCarron has signed a new two-year deal, he could make it onto the pitch having been on the bench for the last three league matches.

A lot of Leeds fans are very happy on Twitter to see McCarron sign a new contract.

“Well deserved for this lad. Proper Bielsa player, can play in numerous positions (LB, LW, RW) and works harder than most. Congrats,”

“Decent player.”

McCarron is a left-back by trade, and given that Junior Firpo has arguably not enjoyed the most successful starts to his Leeds career, the young Scotsman could be handed some minutes from the bench to prove he’s good enough.

Who was Bielsa's first competitive game as Leeds manager against?

It appears that the 20-year old is quite a handful in the opposition’s final third, having registered a goal and assist in Premier League 2 this season after five games as well as picking up a clean sheet against Liverpool.
