Former Premier League striker Nigel Jemson insists that Leeds United will not be anywhere near the relegation zone this season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have endured a remarkably difficult start to the season.

Leeds are 17th in the Premier League table going into their fixture against fellow lowly club Newcastle United; only the Magpies, Norwich City and Burnley have worse records in the top-flight than them at this point.

The club have been thumped 5-1 by Manchester United and 3-0 by Liverpool and are next in action against Steve Bruce’s men at St James’ Park in what could be seen as a six-pointer already.

However, Jemson is insistent in his belief that Leeds will not be fighting a relegation battle this term, and is confident that they will be comfortable in mid-table.

Indeed, he does not believe that a top-six push is on the cards but he believes that boss Marcelo Bielsa will not allow standards to drop to the extent that they could fall into the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, he said: “I’m not going to say Leeds are going to finish in the top six. I think that’d be a really tough ask for them to do but I don’t think for any moment they’ll be down there and I think the gaffer will demand what he demands from his players, he won’t let that happen.”
