Arsenal correspondent Chris Wheatley has claimed the Arsenal players are already ‘big fans’ of new signing Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japanese defender was part of a valiant Gunners defence which helped the side cling on to a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley. This is the second clean sheet Arsenal have kept since Tomiyasu has come into the team following the 1-0 win over Norwich City the week before – and it seems his efforts are not going unnoticed.

Having attended the game at Turf Moor, Wheatley explained how the right-back was helped back onto his feet at the final whistle by his teammates, having ended the game with a notable limp.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained: “So the first thing I really wanted to mention was Takehiro Tomiyasu, who had a really good game. Now, he won all of his duels in the match – all of his aerial duels and all of his ground duels.

“And by the end of the game, he was limping. He was out on his feet, and the Arsenal players at the end, Mikel Arteta, came over to him. The Arsenal players went over to pick him up.

“So Tomiyasu, absolutely superb yesterday, and clearly his teammates are big fans of him already.”

TIF Thoughts on Takehiro Tomiyasu and Arsenal…

Having only signed for the club on transfer deadline day, Tomiyasu has already made a positive impact at the club. Indeed, before he came in, Arsenal had lost their first three league games.

The Gunners now have consecutive wins and consecutive clean sheets under their belts. This will likely be a great confidence boost for the club, who will play rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their next Premier League game.

No doubt, Tomiyasu and co will be desperate for another win and clean sheet in the game to take bragging rights from the ever-important north London derby – and the first impressions from the Japan international have been very promising indeed.
