West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has been sharing some details concerning the east London club’s previous transfer interest in signing Tammy Abraham this summer.
This comes after Ex co-hosted a recent episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, where he spoke about a range of subjects surrounding the Hammers.
On the subject of Abraham and the transfer interest West Ham reportedly had in him prior to his recent move to Italian club AS Roma from Chelsea, Ex had this to say before the move was confirmed.
He said: “Tammy Abraham, I’m pretty certain – and I can prove it through interviews, as well – that [David] Moyes wanted Tammy Abraham, but the board kept saying that his wages were too high or his transfer fee was too high.
“But from all accounts, he’s going to go to Roma for £34 million and be on less than £100,000-a-week wages.
“That, for a 23-year-old England international, who has scored a lot of goals at the top level, is a realistic price.
“Why we didn’t sign him is really not good, I don’t think.”
Abraham, who is a product of Chelsea’s youth system, made his senior debut for the club in May 2016 during a Premier League match against Liverpool.
Since then, the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at £34.2 million according to Transfermarkt, made 82 senior appearances for the west London club across all competitions, in which he managed to rack up a total of 30 goals and 12 assists before making the move to Italy with Jose Mourinho’s side.

Taking into account how much experience Abraham has of playing in the Premier League as well as Europe and the respectable goalscoring record he has under his belt, we feel that if a deal for Abraham was there to be made by West Ham that was financially viable, then they should have done it before Roma stepped in and secured his signature this summer, as Ex clearly thinks should have been done at the London Stadium.

Moving forward, considering how West Ham only have Michail Antonio in their squad that can predominantly play in the centre-forward position – who also has a rather troubling injury record as well – we feel that, having missed out on Abraham, West Ham should definitely bring in another striker as soon as possible to add some depth before the end of the window.
