Newcastle fans have been reacting to the latest transfer update on Santiago Munoz, who is seemingly closing in on a move to St James’ Park.

According to the Chronicle (via NUFC 360), Newcastle’s move for the teenage forward is close, as he was recently withdrawn from the Mexican league’s All-Star game due to the ongoing negotiations with Steve Nickson.

Although the 19-year-old is a relatively unknown quantity, with just three senior goals for Santos Laguna in his career thus far, Newcastle fans are already warming to him due to the remarkable similarities he shares with Santiago Munez, the star of the fictional film Goal which centres around a young Mexican footballer joining Newcastle United.

How did Newcastle fans react to this latest update?

“A 19 yo who only made his debut a year ago. Scored 3 goals. Just another one to languish in the development squad for a few seasons before being moved on.”

Should Newcastle fans be excited about Munoz?

Whilst it is difficult to know how well Munoz will adapt to Premier League football and whether or not he will be a success, this transfer does feel like something of a PR stunt by the Toon rather than them looking at bringing in someone who will genuinely improve Bruce’s squad.

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

At 19-years-old, Munoz will find first-team opportunities hard to come by at first, so it is understandable why a lot of Newcastle fans aren’t too impressed with this signing.
