A number of fans have congregated online to share their feelings on a particular statistic that has emerged after the club’s recent defeat.

In the aftermath of the Magpies’ 4-2 loss at home to West Ham on the opening day of the League season, host of True Faith podcast Alex Hurst tweeted that this was the third time the club had conceded four home goals in the past 12 months.

Indeed, both teams put four past Newcastle at St. James’ Park last season, with United winning 4-1 in October 2020, while City won 4-3 last May.

Hurst went on to explain that prior to these defeats, the feat of conceding four goals at home in the league hadn’t happened to the club at home for seven years – it was April 2014 when Manchester United again scored four.

Newcastle fans were quick to respond to the tweet offering their thoughts on the damning stat.

What did these Newcastle fans say?

“Wow.”

“Sadly, expect this to continue until #BruceOut #NUFC.”

“What’s really damning, Alex, is these are not freak occurrences many other games we could have had similar results. He’s just not up to the job. He’s seen as a defensive coach but none of his teams have ever been able to defend.”

“Shocking, really. Against U or City, maybe, but WH?”
“That’s because he is not very good at his job.”
