A number of Newcastle United fans have congregated online to share their feelings on a particular statistic that has emerged after the club’s recent defeat.
In the aftermath of the Magpies’ 4-2 loss at home to West Ham on the opening day of the Premier League season, host of True Faith Newcastle United podcast Alex Hurst tweeted that this was the third time the club had conceded four home goals in the past 12 months.
Indeed, both Manchester teams put four past Newcastle at St. James’ Park last season, with United winning 4-1 in October 2020, while City won 4-3 last May.
Hurst went on to explain that prior to these defeats, the feat of conceding four goals at home in the league hadn’t happened to the club at home for seven years – it was April 2014 when Manchester United again scored four.
Newcastle fans were quick to respond to the tweet offering their thoughts on the damning stat.
What did these Newcastle fans say?
“Wow.”
“Sadly, expect this to continue until #BruceOut #NUFC.”
“What’s really damning, Alex, is these are not freak occurrences many other games we could have had similar results. He’s just not up to the job. He’s seen as a defensive coach but none of his teams have ever been able to defend.”
Alan Pardew was in charge of the club when they lost 4-0 at home to Man United in 2014. They went through four different managers (though two were just interim) before the fifth (Bruce) looked over a game where they conceded four at home again.
It’s no wonder these fans are calling for him to be fired.
