Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on Sky Sports News to discuss all things transfer-related to Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the transfer insider, Fabio Paratici is working on bringing in more new faces through the door this summer in the form of another centre-back, a midfielder and potentially a backup striker.

Do Spurs need another centre-back this summer?

The Lilywhites have been recently linked with centre-back Nikola Milenkovic, following claims that reported talks with their London rivals, West Ham United, had fallen through.

From the beginning of the summer, it was believed Spurs were looking to bring in two new centre-backs and they now only need one more to complete the set having signed Cristian Romero.

Spurs have also been linked with Villarreal’s Pau Torres over the weekend, however, speaking on Paratici’s plans for the final couple of weeks of the transfer window, Romano had the following to say.

“Fabio Paratici, first of all, always works like this, because he’s used it to work on many different players for the same position. So for Tottenham fans, they have to get used to this kind of work from Fabio Paratici.

“Now, he’s going for another centre-back, he wants another centre-back at Tottenham and we will see if it’ll be Milenkovic from Fiorentina – also West Ham are interested in him – or a different player, but he could be one of the candidates, one of the options at centre-back for Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s claim…

Going into the summer, we believed Spurs would require two top-class centre-backs this summer window to address the defensive issues they endured last season.

However, reports have suggested has returned to Hotspur Way rejuvenated after his Copa America tournament, and impressed in their victory on opening day against Manchester City.

We still feel Spurs require another centre-back, but if Sanchez is to have returned with newfound confidence, then maybe another centre-back would provide healthy competition for the Colombian to thrive off.

Also, if Sanchez is able to finally hit consistent form this season, having three performing centre-backs could give Nuno Espirito Santo the option to transition to three at the back as and when he requires.
