Joe Wainman from All Leeds TV believes that Danish midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard would be a marquee signing, but fears Leeds not being in Europe might cost them.
Damsgaard, who only turned 21 last month, is already a regular for Sampdoria, scoring twice and adding four assists in 35 appearances in his debut season in Serie A.
Will Leeds finish in the top seven this season?
Yes
No
However, it was his antics for Denmark at Euro 2020 that caught the attention of the Premier League.
Damsgaard quickly stepped up to the plate in the absence of Christian Eriksen after his sickening injury in Denmark’s opener, and started their next five matches.
Having scored a crucial goal in their group stage victory over Russia, the playmaker then assisted against Wales before producing a spectacular free-kick in the semi-final defeat to England.
Denmark wouldn’t progress, but Damsgaard had already done enough to convince both Leeds and Tottenham, according to Italian outlet Il Bianconero.
But Wainman told This is Futbol that he reckons Leeds might just miss out on this occasion:
“If we could get Mikkel Damsgaard it would be a real marquee signing for me, he was really impressive in the Euros.
“He really took on the Christian Eriksen mantle, which is why the Tottenham one would suit him more.
“Leeds are a massive club, but we’re not in Europe yet and I think his next move would be to a club that’s playing in Europe.”
