Everton journalist Phil Kirkbride has been sharing some details regarding the possibility of the Merseyside club potentially signing a right-back before the current summer transfer window deadline.
This comes after Kirkbride made an appearance on a recent episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Royal Blue Podcast, where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the Toffees.
On the subject of the club potentially signing a right-back before the summer transfer deadline, Kirkbride had this to say on the matter.
He said: “I wouldn’t say certain, but that’s the way the wind is blowing and that’s the noises that are coming out of the club, that it would have to be short-term at this point.
“Because as it stands, the finances maybe aren’t there within the realms of financial regulations that are making it difficult at this point, plus [the] availability option. I think I think [a] loan would seem very plausible and realistic at this point.”
TIF Thoughts on Phil Kirkbride’s comments on a potential right-back transfer this summer…
So far this summer, Everton have signed Asmir Begovic, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.
In our view, given how Everton only have 32-year-old Seamus Coleman in their squad who can predominantly play in the right-back position – aside from Jonjoe Kenny, who has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer – the club should definitely look to bring in a new right-back this summer, especially if Kenny does end up leaving.
Do you think Everton need to sign a right-back?
Yes
No
However, with the window set to close at the end of the month, Everton will have to get a move on if they are to bring a new right-back in, even if it is just on a loan deal as Kirkbride suggested, which could work out for the club if they choose to loan Kenny out again, as they have done in previous years.
