Dean Windass doesn’t believe that Danny Ings would sign for Tottenham unless he’s guaranteed to be their first-choice striker.

Ings has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Southampton and recently rejected the four-year contract that Saints offered him.

The 28-year-old, who’s previously spoken about his desire to play in the Champions League, has been linked with both City and Spurs.

Ings has scored 34 Premier League goals across the previous two seasons, establishing himself as one of the most lethal frontmen in the division despite Southampton’s own struggles.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

According to The Telegraph, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are keen on bringing Ings to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, and he’s become their top target.

With the ex-Liverpool striker out of contract next summer, Tottenham could secure his services on the cheap.

However, having led the line impressively for Southampton in recent seasons, Windass isn’t convinced he’d join the club if Harry Kane sticks around.

He exclusively told This is Futbol:

“Does Danny Ings want to go and play second fiddle to Harry Kane? Danny Ings has been linked with a lot of teams because he’s a goalscorer and they’re very hard to come by.

Wherever Danny Ings goes, he will always score goals, but I couldn’t tell you whether he’ll stay at Southampton or not.”
