A whole host of Newcastle United fans have reacted to The Chronicle’s tweet about Southampton wanting a swap deal for Isaac Hayden and Mario Lemina.
Hayden was one of Newcastle’s most consistent performers last season with a 6.67 WhoScored rating placing him eighth amongst the Magpies’ squad.
Do you think Newcastle should sell Hayden this summer?
Yes
No
The original report from the Mail Online has claimed that both parties are in conversation over a potential swap deal that would see each club receive a new central midfielder.
It would be a huge loss for Newcastle if they lost Hayden judging by the way that many fans have reacted on Twitter.
How have these Newcastle fans reacted exactly?
“Hayden no way there will be trouble if Isaac goes #nufc”
“Hayden needs to stay, one of our best centre mids”
“Not a chance…I’ll stick with what we have”
No chance, it’s a joke aye?
“Worst deal ever.”
“Keep hayden and get rid of shelvey… hayden is a much better player than shelvey”
It’s not just that Hayden is the only true defensive midfielder in the Newcastle squad but also, he is very much capable of slotting into the centre of defence as he did numerous times last season for Steve Bruce’s side, which makes him a lot more valuable than Lemina.
The midfielder only signed a new deal until 2026 last year which is another reason why a straight swap deal would really not make any sense for the Magpies considering Lemina only has one year left on his deal.
