Michael Ball has rubbished rumours that Manchester City could persuade Chelsea to sell Reece James this summer.
It has been reported that the England international has been added to Pep Guardiola’s wishlist ahead of City’s Premier League title defence.
James shone for Chelsea last season, making 47 appearances and playing a key role in the Blues’ Champions League final victory over City in May.
Would Chelsea allow Man City to sign Reece James?
Yes
No
He was then named in England’s Euro 2020 squad, but his only involvement came in the goalless group stage stalemate against Scotland.
The 21-year-old, who would be seen as a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker in City’s plans, still has four years remaining on his £100,000-per-week deal at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel would not want to see one of the Blues’ brightest prospects depart, but it would go down even worse among the club’s supporters if he left for a direct title rival.
As a result, former City left-back Ball would be surprised to see a deal sanctioned.
Speaking exclusively to TIF, he said: “Will Chelsea sell to Manchester City? I can’t see it happening.
“I think Chelsea will really try to push themselves to get closer and close that gap. They won’t want one of their star players to be going to one of their rivals.”
