Speaking on the latest Blood Red podcast, journalist Paul Gorst offered his thoughts on Xherdan Shaqiri’s future.

Clubs in Serie A are among those reportedly holding an interest in the midfielder and with the Swiss only starting seven Premier League games over the last two seasons, it’s easy to see why Shaqiri may want to seek a new challenge away from English football and Liverpool.

Do you think Liverpool should sell Shaqiri this summer?

The Switzerland international was signed from Stoke City back in 2018 for just £13 million and has gone onto make 63 appearances for the Reds as well as picking up Premier League and Champions League winners’ medals.

Gorst spoke about what the future is likely to hold for Shaqiri.

“I think he only started four games last season or six games, had a good Euros, which has worked to Liverpool’s benefit in a way, teams are taking another look at him again.

“Liverpool are very much open to offers and he’s got several teams interested. A few talks with his agent [about] what is feasible from the likes of those clubs, and Liverpool very much waiting by the phone for the calls to come in.”

How many goals has Mohamed Salah scored in all competitions this season?

Shaqiri has had an illustrious career having played for clubs such as Inter and Bayern Munich prior to his Anfield switch, so it is hardly surprising he has a queue of potential suitors, especially given how he performed at Euro 2020 with Switzerland, netting three times and setting up one goal at the tournament.

It was always going to be a tall order for Shaqiri to break into that Liverpool frontline consisting of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino and after only being handed 18 league starts in his three seasons at Anfield, it would make sense for him to move on as he is now 29 years old.
