The Athletic journalist Matt Woosnam has tipped Marc Guehi to be a huge success at Crystal Palace.

Guehi joined the Eagles from Premier League rivals Chelsea in an £18million deal earlier this week.

The switch comes after Guehi shone in the Championship, with the central defender making 45 appearances as he fell agonisingly short of winning promotion to the top flight with Swansea City last season.

Guehi will provide Patrick Vieira, who succeeded Roy Hodgson in the Palace dugout after his appointment earlier this month, with another central defensive option following the departures of Scott Dann and Gary Cahill this summer.

Dann is reportedly nearing a move to Championship side Bournemouth after seeing his Palace deal expire at the end of last month, while Rangers are eyeing the out-of-contract Cahill.

Woosnam believes Guehi, who has won 11 international caps for the England under-21s, is an eye-catching new arrival who will only get better by experiencing Premier League football at Selhurst Park.

Speaking exclusively to TIF, Palace reporter Woosnam said: “Marc Guehi is an excellent signing. He’s young, has a lot of potential to improve and has played at every single England youth level.

“He was also schooled at the Chelsea academy and there are a lot of positives to be had there.

“He’s got a decent amount of experience in the Championship as well.”
