This comes after the club’s official Twitter account shared the news announcing that young goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has signed a contract extension with the club and will be joining up with the first team next season.

This was picked up by many Sunderland fans, who were quick to comment their feelings on the news.

Judging by the replies, lots of Sunderland fans are buzzing with the news of a new contract for the young goalkeeper.

The 21-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance in League One, but played for the club during their EFL Trophy campaign this season, conceding three goals in two appearances.

However, the majority of Patterson’s performances have come for Sunderland’s U23s, where he managed nine clean sheets in 24 appearances in the second tier of the Premier League 2 division, as Sunderland made the play-offs after finishing 5th.

Having signed the deal, Patterson will now join up with the first team for pre-season was delighted by his new deal at the Black Cats:

I was pleased with the way last season went on a personal level and I can’t wait to get started again and see what the new season brings. Over the past year, I feel I’ve progressed well and it’s now important to build on that.”
